No Infrastructure or Reconciliation Until the Filibuster’s Gone

Our government could address attacks on our voting rights, secure women’s reproductive autonomy, unrig our courts, and provide aid to so many Americans in need…but that would require ending the Senate filibuster. Not all Democratic Senators are on board with ending it, or even modifying it, and President Biden is unable or unwilling to push for getting rid of it.
But the House can exert pressure to make it happen. The Rev. Dr. Barber says that the House Progressive Caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus should commit to withholding their votes on the bipartisan infrastructure bill AND the reconciliation bill until the Senate ends the filibuster and passes bills to protect voting rights, raise the minimum wage, and help the poor and vulnerable people of this country. The CPC, CBC, and any other House Dems who understand the urgency of the moment should do just that!
I know this is a lot to ask, but these are perilous times. The window to save our Republic and our rights is closing. The only thing that might get the President and all the Senate Dems to feel the necessary sense of urgency is bringing infrastructure and reconciliation to a halt until they do what needs to be done.
