Defend the Constitution: Enforce the 14th Amendment, Section 3

I write to you today as a concerned citizen deeply troubled by the state of our democracy. Amendment 14, Section 3 of the Constitution states unequivocally that no person who has engaged in insurrection or rebellion, or given aid or comfort to enemies of the United States, shall hold office. Yet, on January 6, 2025, members of Congress swore in Donald Trump as President, disregarding his actions that clearly fall under this prohibition.
Jack Smith’s investigation concluded that admissible evidence exists to sustain a conviction against Mr. Trump for his role in attempting to overturn the 2020 election results. While Trump may have been elected, that does not change the fact that his actions disqualify him from the presidency.
The call for a peaceful transfer of power is meaningless if it enables the return of someone who is constitutionally unfit to lead. His actions have shown that he is not committed to upholding the values that define our nation, and his return to power poses a direct threat to the very principles of democracy and the institutions that sustain it.
The bipartisan inaction on enforcing the Constitution sends a dangerous message: the rule of law in America is optional for those in power. This is not just demoralizing—it is a betrayal of the sacrifices made by generations of Americans who have fought to defend our freedoms.
Democracy is not self-sustaining. It requires vigilance, courage, and adherence to its principles, even when it goes politically against decorum. Enforcing the 14th Amendment is not just a legal obligation—it is an imperative. The time for action is now. History will remember those who stood firm in defense of democracy and those who did not. I urge you to fulfill your duty and uphold the Constitution.
