Immediate Action Required to Halt Military Purge and Protect Democracy

The systematic removal of our most experienced military leaders is not just reckless—it is a deliberate step toward consolidating power and dismantling resistance to a potential autocratic takeover. This is not politics as usual. It is an attack on national security and the foundational principles of our democracy. Congress must act now to stop it.
These actions mirror historical patterns of authoritarian consolidation: eliminate competent military leadership, install loyalists, dismantle institutional safeguards, and neutralize dissent. Every day that Congress fails to act, we get closer to a point of no return.
Congress has the power to block this. Use it.
1. Invoke the War Powers Resolution – Prevent reckless use of the military by requiring congressional approval for major deployments or strategic shifts.
2. Freeze Pentagon Appointments – Use legislative and budgetary authority to halt confirmations and promotions until transparency is restored.
3. Subpoena and Investigate – Open an immediate congressional investigation into the firings and their implications for national security.
4. Leverage the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) – Include provisions that restrict the president’s ability to unilaterally purge or replace top military officials without congressional oversight.
5. Cut Off Funding for Politicized Appointments – Use the power of the purse to deny salaries and operational budgets for any replacements installed under suspect circumstances.
6. Publicly Oppose and Rally Allies – Call for bipartisan unity in rejecting these moves before irreversible damage is done.
The time for measured responses has passed. This is an existential threat to American democracy, and history will judge those who remained silent. You swore an oath to defend the Constitution—act like it.
I expect to see immediate, aggressive action from you and your colleagues. I will be watching your response closely.
