Stop Trump from Turning Our Money Into a Monument to Himself

I am writing as your constituent to urge you to cosponsor and pass the Change Corruption Act, S. 3408, and prohibit the image or signature of any living or sitting president from appearing on United States coins or currency. The U.S. Mint is producing a $1 coin featuring Donald Trump’s likeness, while the Treasury plans to place his signature on future paper currency. This is not a harmless design choice. It is a sitting president using public institutions to turn American money into personal political merchandise. Our currency belongs to the people. It should represent the nation and the democratic institutions we share—not flatter one president’s ego, promote one political party, or become a taxpayer-funded monument to the person controlling the executive branch. The Trump coin also collides with a federal restriction rooted in the Contraction Act of 1866 and America’s longstanding rejection of placing living political leaders on public money. The Treasury should not be allowed to exploit a disputed loophole to accomplish what federal law and democratic tradition were designed to prevent. Please cosponsor and pass S. 3408 and demand that the Treasury stop producing or releasing coins and currency featuring the image, likeness, name, portrait, or signature of any living or sitting president.
