Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
Trump Impeachment #2, Day #3.
The day’s events were once again enlightening. Although, again, the talent discrepancy between lawyer teams was obvious even to me. On Mr. Trump’s side the pound the table strategy seemed to rule the day. Not persuasive. Plus the lead attorney seemed insulting. To everyone.
Senator Cornyn, your question during the question and answer period was well thought out, smart, and showed you are really listening.
Senator Cruz, yours seemed to be designed to try and show you are the smartest guy in the room. Convoluted, but with a lot of legal brilliance I expect.
However, the big deal of the day appears to not have happened in the Senate. The big news seems to be further details of the phone call between Kevin McCarthy and Mr. Trump while the insurrection was going on and Mr. McCarthy was begging for assistance as the Capitol was being overrun.
From CNN right now...”Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are," Trump said, according to lawmakers who were briefed on the call afterward by McCarthy.
McCarthy insisted that the rioters were Trump's supporters and begged Trump to call them off. “
The consensus being that Mr. Trump had no intention on stopping the chaos.
Between this further revelation and the reaffirmation (not hearsay) of Senator Tuberville about the timing of his phone call with Mr. Trump (re Senate evacuation of V-P Pence), all of these late hour revelations seem to me to show concern within GOP ranks.
I expect it’s too much to hope for y’all to do the hard thing with your vote tomorrow, but I remain hopeful that country, conscience, and right may still win the day.
