An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Texas only)
POOR TEXAS
4 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
Greetings. I am a voting constituent in rural west Texas.
For once it would be really great to see positive headlines about our Texas state government. Instead we are constantly showing the world how to run backwards as fast as we can. De-evolution might be a good term.
Example from the Washington Post today:
“Texas this week showed us what a post-democracy America would look like.
Thanks to a series of actions by the Texas legislature and governor, we now see exactly what the Trumpified Republican Party wants: to take us to an America where women cannot get abortions, even in cases of rape and incest; an America where almost everybody can openly carry a gun in public, without license, without permit, without safety training and without fingerprinting; and an America where law-abiding Black and Latino citizens are disproportionately denied the right to vote.”
Even though, the author continues, the majority of Texans want freedom to choose, don’t want across-the-board gun carry, and don’t want restrictions on voting.
So who exactly are you representing by forcing these unwanted laws on your constituents?
We all know the answer to that rhetorical question. You are catering to your majority minority. A majority minority maintained by gerrymandering. And by ramming through unpopular laws to help maintain your majority minority power.
It’s good to be king.
But history shows over and over what happens when government does not reflect the will of the people.
It’s just too bad you’ve turned Texas into a dangerous joke. And made your constituents ashamed.
