I am writing as a Jacksonville constituent to respectfully urge you to vote NO on HB 641 / SB 1642.
While I understand the stated goals of this legislation, the bill raises several serious concerns:
1. Government Overreach and Precedent
This bill expands state authority in ways that could limit local decision-making and individual freedoms. Policies of this magnitude deserve broader public input and clearer guardrails to prevent unintended overreach.
2. Financial Impact on Taxpayers
HB 641 / SB 1642 may create new administrative, enforcement, and compliance costs. At a time when families are already managing rising insurance, housing, and utility costs, adding new financial burdens—directly or indirectly—is irresponsible without clear fiscal transparency.
3. Unintended Consequences for Communities
Legislation that significantly changes regulatory or legal standards often has ripple effects. Small businesses, nonprofits, and working families frequently bear the brunt of poorly defined mandates. This bill does not appear to adequately protect against those impacts.
4. Lack of Demonstrated Need
Before expanding government authority or creating new restrictions, there should be compelling data showing that existing laws are insufficient. That case has not been clearly made.
Florida thrives when we prioritize limited government, fiscal responsibility, and policies that unite rather than divide our communities. I urge you to carefully reconsider this legislation and stand with constituents who are asking for a more measured approach.
Please vote NO on HB 641 / SB 1642.
