As a constituent, I’m writing to express my increasing alarm that HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. is attempting to deprive Americans from accessing COVID-19 vaccines to protect their health and the health of their families and loved ones.There are already reports from people around the country that they are unable to access COVID-19 vaccines at their local pharmacies or doctors’ offices. This is a matter that needs your urgent attention.
According to CDC estimates, between last fall and today, there have been over 3 million out-patient visits, over 300,000 hospitalizations and over 30,000 deaths from COVID.
COVID-19 vaccines reduce the risk of critical illness requiring hospital admission, admission to intensive care or death. They also reduce the risk of developing Long COVID.
HHS Secretary RFK Jr. is on a dangerous and fast-moving path to making COVID-19 vaccines totally unavailable here in the US. In May, he announced that CDC would no longer recommend COVID-19 vaccines for healthy children and pregnant women, totally blindsiding healthcare workers and scientists at CDC and across the nation, leading major medical associations, including the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, to issue their own recommendations. Now the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has put new restrictions on the approval of COVID-19 vaccines allowing them only for people 65 and older or with “underlying conditions”. Just last week, CVS, a major pharmacy chain and key provider of vaccines, said they would not give out COVID vaccines in 16 states until the CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommended them. This is the same committee RFK Jr. purged and filled with his anti-vax cronies earlier this summer. All along Mr. Kennedy and other HHS officials have spread misinformation about COVID vaccines, with Mr. Kennedy saying that the COVID-19 vaccine is “the deadliest vaccine ever made.”
As your constituent, I need assurances from my elected representatives and our health officials that COVID-19 vaccines will be readily available this fall and that all seeking them will be eligible to receive the vaccine and be able to get vaccinated promptly and close to where they live or work. This is an urgent matter. Right now, many have no recourse if they need and want a vaccine.
As my elected representative, I am begging you to stand up to protect the people of our state. Please write to Mr. Kennedy and other health officials in this administration expressing your support for COVID vaccine access in America. Mr. Kennedy is endangering the health and lives of millions of us and you can stop it.
