Planning a coup right out in the open.
The Bangor, Maine, Daily News reported earlier this week that the Republican nominee for Governor, Bobby Charles, told a group of young Republicans, “I’m going to ask Tom — three or four weeks before the election, maybe three — I’m going to make an appeal for ICE and marshals to be at our voting booths.”
He continued, “Do you think the illegals who are being paid money are going to like that?”
And they wonder why they’re so unpopular. Lies upon lies. Corruption. Pandering. More lies. And the worst sin…believing that we the people are on board with it all.
Efforts are accelerating to screw with the November elections. It’s in our face. Up front. Brazen. And it’s not enough to continue to believe that it won’t happen, someone will stop it, they wouldn’t dare, because we know it can, no one will, and they absolutely would.
So when he speaks of ‘Tom’ we know he means border czar Tom Homan, who visited Maine earlier this month. A visit made after telling a Maine House representative that he was taking the trip “to meet with the border patrol and the ICE folks … to find out what they need, to get more specifics on what the issues are so we can address them.”
Homan said immigration officials want to remove “hundreds of thousands” of people now that SCOTUS has ruled the administration can do away with temporary protected status.
According to Federal data only 715 of the 1.3M people currently under TPS reside in Maine. But even so, Homan said “You're gonna see a lot more enforcement action in Maine, just because of the TPS settlement.”
The Trump administration is ramping up tools for election interference. They will manufacture, or cause, scenarios where troops will be ordered deployed for a ‘national emergency’ just in time for November intimidation.
Or to ‘protect’ the 1000 election ‘observers’ that are being, and will be, deployed to polling places across the country.
These guys don’t play by the rules. They act first, but don’t even apologize later. So don’t have an expectation of fairness from an administration desperate to keep power.
Because they know what’s coming if they lose it.
Be heartened by strong evidence that if they try to send troops to the polls, Americans will respond by taking the most powerful act any of us can on behalf of democracy: voting.
The worst form of voter suppression is the kind that tries to convince you your vote doesn’t count and won’t be counted. So why bother.
That’s what all of this is about, whether it’s aggressive poll watchers or threats of troops or law enforcement at the polls, it’s all about intimidating voters.
Don’t be intimidated. We have all the power. And they know it.
They’re just hoping we forget we do.
