Protect LGBTQ+ Youth: Amend SB 1298 to Prevent Censorship

The proposed Senate Bill 1298, which seeks to regulate internet content deemed harmful to minors, is currently under consideration. While the intention to protect minors is commendable, the bill's broad definitions could inadvertently target and remove queer and trans media/material, which is a vital source of information and support for many young individuals. This could lead to a form of online censorship that disproportionately affects marginalized communities. Therefore, it is crucial to revise the bill's language to ensure it does not inadvertently suppress diverse voices and perspectives. This will ensure that the internet remains a space for all, not just a select few. The bill's current status, having passed the Senate Rules Committee and the Senate Transportation, Technology and Missing Children Committee, makes it timely to address these concerns.
