Congress Must Stop Trump’s Tariffs & Musk’s Unchecked Power

President Trump’s reckless 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico are a direct threat to American consumers, businesses, and workers. These tariffs will drive up prices on essential goods, including automobiles, where costs are expected to rise by an average of $3,000 per vehicle. American manufacturing relies on integrated supply chains with our neighbors, and these tariffs will only lead to job losses, retaliatory trade restrictions, and economic instability. Instead of strengthening our economy, these policies will burden working families and small businesses while giving foreign competitors an advantage. At the same time, Elon Musk, an unelected billionaire with no government experience, has been given sweeping influence over federal operations. His unchecked authority has already led to the abrupt shutdown of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), disrupting critical humanitarian aid programs. Musk has also been granted access to sensitive areas of government, including financial and defense systems, without any democratic oversight. No private individual should have this much power over national security and public policy. Congress must act immediately. These tariffs must be reassessed before they cause long-term damage to our economy. Government operations must remain accountable to the public, not placed in the hands of a single billionaire with no transparency. If democracy and economic stability are to survive, these dangerous policies must be stopped now.
