Please take the threat of AI to the American economy seriously. There will be no consumers if no one has a job because of automation. Already 3.5 M American long haul truck drivers and another 3.5 M American call center workers risk losing employment.
Please take seriously these common sense policies:
1. Wage insurance- tried 10 years ago the program was so successful in subsidizing people returning to the workforce that the program paid for itself. Looks a lot better than unemployment benefits.
2. Taxing capital gains lower than income creates the incentive for automation. Raise capital income taxes to incentivize earned income, and suddenly AI companies are incentivized to create AI that makes people’s work more productive, instead of replacing them with profits flowing only to the oligarchy. Stop subsidizing passive income.
3. Expand the concept of Trump Accounts to allow every American citizen to have voting rights in corporations that are benefiting from AI training on what Americans contribute to the internet, books, journalism, music, pictures, etc. Invest in these companies on behalf of the American people when they are born, and allow us a say in their corporate governance.
