Oppose the deeply unserious CANADA FIRE Act.

I am writing to urge you to vote NO on the proposed CANADA FIRE Act. While protecting American air quality is a critical priority, threatening our closest ally and NATO partner with sanctions and diplomatic expulsions over natural disasters is dangerous, counterproductive, and fundamentally unserious. I ask that you reject this political theater and consider the severe, real-world consequences this legislation would have on our national security and economic stability: - It Sabotages Mutual Aid: Wildfire response relies on absolute reciprocity. American and Canadian firefighters have crossed the border for generations to save lives. Sanctioning the very Canadian forestry and emergency officials we rely on for cross-border support insults our frontline workers and jeopardizes this life-saving partnership. - It Violates the Standard of Fairness: Natural disasters do not respect borders. When catastrophic U.S. wildfires blanketed Canada in smoke in 2020, Canada did not respond with economic warfare. We must treat our neighbors with the same cooperation we expect from them. - It Weakens Our National Security: Canada is our primary partner in NORAD and one of our top trading partners. Fracturing this relationship with import restrictions and diplomatic hostility disrupts supply chains, harms American workers, and weakens our defense at a time of global instability. We cannot sanction the weather. True leadership means focusing on real solutions, such as strengthening cross-border firefighting resources and addressing the environmental drivers that make these fire seasons increasingly severe for both nations. I urge you to stand up for common sense and our frontline responders by publicly rejecting the CANADA FIRE Act.
