Oppose/Vote NO on Lucas and Panuccio for EEOC Commissioners - Unfit & Biased
24 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!
Today, I turn my attention to two nominees — Andrea Lucas and Brittany Panuccio — for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and after reading about them, urge a NO vote on both. They are unqualified to uphold the EEOCs mission of protecting the civil rights of workers.
The records of both nominees are disturbing, and their character for the job is clearly lacking.
First, Andrea Lucas has repeatedly overstepped her authority and undermined the agency's independence, politicizing its operations to align with the previous administration's agenda. Notably, she has directed the EEOC to deprioritize and dismiss cases involving discrimination against transgender and gender non-conforming individuals, despite clear legal protections.
Lucas has also expressed intent to deprioritize disparate impact discrimination cases, which are crucial for addressing facially neutral policies that disproportionately harm workers based on protected characteristics. In addition, Lucas has used her position to intimidate businesses and sow confusion around diversity, equity, and inclusion practices that promote equal opportunity.
Her actions, such as demanding information from law firms about their DEl initiatives without proper authority, raise questions about her willingness to misuse power for political gain.
The other nominee, Brittany Panuccio, has limited experience in employment law. Her background of advancing the administration's policy priorities call into question her qualifications and commitment to protecting workers' rights.
But most disturbing is her involvement in efforts like weakening Title IX protections against sexual harassment in schools.
A woman who doesn’t care about sexual harassment in schools? I call that unqualified and disturbing before the hearings.
What kind of people are these two women that they would sell their souls for blind adherence to Trump? They clearly don’t care or are mentally unable to understand what worker’s civil rights even mean.
Given the importance of the EEOC's mission, a rigorous and transparent confirmation process is essential. Expose them as frauds. That’s what they are.
I demand a thorough examination of Lucas and Panuccio's records, and demand that they answer questions as to their qualifications, demand that they explain under oath their lack of commitment for equality and lack of commitment to enforcing anti-discrimination laws.
Neither Lucas nor Panuccio show any adherence to long-standing norms of promoting equal opportunity for all workers. Elevating these women would be a mistake. It is imperative that nominees ensure the agency's integrity and effectiveness. These two are frauds that will hurt civil rights.
Expose, Oppose and Vote NO on both Andrea Lucas and Brittany Panuccio. Thank you.
