Reject Hegseth Nomination: Safeguard Military Integrity and Diversity

As a decorated and disabled U.S. Army combat veteran, constituent, and regular voter, I am deeply concerned about the nomination of Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense. His appointment threatens to undermine the foundational values of religious freedom, diversity, and democratic norms that are essential to the cohesion and effectiveness of the U.S. military.
Hegseth’s close ties to the Christian nationalist movement and his affiliation with an Idaho church that seeks to impose a theocratic agenda are antithetical to the principles of separation of church and state enshrined in our Constitution. His divisive views on women in combat roles and his past criticism of inclusive military policies jeopardize the trust and unity required within our armed forces to function as a team, regardless of race, gender, or creed.
Our military is strongest when it reflects the diversity of the nation it serves, promoting equal opportunity and respect for all who answer the call to defend this country. As someone who has served on the frontlines, I understand firsthand the importance of leadership that fosters inclusivity and prioritizes mission readiness above personal ideology.
Confirming Hegseth would send a dangerous signal about the direction of our nation’s military, risking its integrity and professionalism. I urge you to reject this nomination and instead advocate for a leader who embodies the values of pluralism, equity, and dedication to all service members.
The strength and unity of our armed forces—and the faith of veterans like me—depend on your commitment to upholding these principles.
