An open letter to the U.S. Senate

Oppose KOSA, SCREEN Act, CHATBOT Act, and Youth AI Privacy Act

414 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!

The Senate Commerce Committee is about to vote on a package of bills — KOSA, the SCREEN Act, the CHATBOT Act, and the Youth AI Privacy Act — and I'm asking you to vote no on all of them. These bills don't target illegal conduct. They require companies to collect more personal data from every user, build age-gating systems across the internet, and expand online surveillance in ways that will harm everyone's privacy and access to lawful speech. The SCREEN Act would force adults to verify their identities before accessing protected speech online and explicitly targets VPNs, a legitimate privacy tool millions of people depend on. KOSA's "duty of care" provision pressures platforms to suppress lawful content. The CHATBOT Act mandates that AI companies preserve teenagers' conversations for parental review rather than letting families make those decisions themselves. The Youth AI Privacy Act, despite its name, actually encourages AI companies to collect more information about users. Every one of these bills trades privacy for the appearance of safety. Please oppose this entire package.
