According to the Brennan Center for Justice, 21.3 million American citizens don't have ready access to a birth certificate or passport, which the SAVE Act would require to register to vote.
Millions more Americans could see their voting rights denied because the documents they have don't match their current name (a common occurrence for married people who change their last name, for
example).
These documents would be required every time a voter registers or re-registers to vote, and access to these documents can be severely limited based on costs, delays in processing by states, or distance needed to
travel to secure the documents.
It's not even a "voter ID law"
'. A Driver's License or State Identification Card is insufficient to register to vote under the SAVE Act.
It's a bill that will result in the mass disenfranchisement of voters, particularly young voters, voters with limited income, and rural voters.
