An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Pressure the IRS to say NO to DHS, and preserve taxpayer privacy regardless of status.

47 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

The IRS' plan to share immigrant data including names, addresses and immigration status with the Department of Homeland Security is a severe violation of privacy and civil liberties. This policy not only breeds distrust in government institutions among immigrant communities, but sets a dangerous precedent of mass surveillance of vulnerable populations. Sharing such sensitive personal information enables potential harassment, detention and deportation of people simply seeking a better life. As public servants, the IRS must uphold its duty to protect all taxpayers' confidentiality regardless of immigration status. I urge you to reject this misguided proposal that undermines constitutional rights and American values of privacy and due process. Preserve the IRS' integrity by refusing to partake in DHS's anti-immigrant agenda.
