Defend Equality: Trans Rights Are Human Rights
49 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!
For decades, the United States has led the world in expanding civil rights, demonstrating that true strength comes from inclusion. From the Stonewall riots in 1969 to the achievement of marriage equality in 2015, LGBTQ Americans have fought tirelessly for their right to live openly and free from discrimination.
However, these hard-won rights are being eroded under the current administration, setting us back decades. Policies that restrict transgender healthcare, censor books, and target Pride events undermine the very principles of freedom and equality that define our nation.
History teaches us that the erosion of one group’s rights jeopardizes the freedoms of all. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. profoundly stated, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Oppressing LGBTQ individuals, immigrants, and people of color weakens the foundation of our democracy. True patriotism lies not in exclusion, but in ensuring that all Americans can live with dignity and freedom, regardless of their identity. Harvey Milk reminded us, “Hope will never be silent.” Similarly, transgender activist Marsha P. Johnson declared, “No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us.”
Now is the time to act decisively. We must reinstate and protect the rights of transgender Americans and other marginalized communities. By doing so, we affirm that America remains committed to justice. A nation that stands for all is a nation that leads.
