An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Protect LGBTQ+ Rights and Oppose Workplace Discrimination Nationwide

I am writing to express my deep concern about the ongoing threats to LGBTQ+ rights across our nation. Recent statements by political figures suggesting that opposing marriage equality and allowing employers to fire people for being gay "is not discrimination" are not only factually incorrect but deeply troubling for the estimated 9% of Americans who identify as LGBTQ+. This stance poses a significant threat to the livelihoods and well-being of millions of Americans. The idea that LGBTQ+ individuals could be fired simply for their identity creates an environment of fear and instability in the workplace. It's not just a matter of personal freedom; it's an issue of economic security and basic human rights that affects every state and community in our country. We've seen a consistent pattern of discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals that has no place in our modern, diverse society. Reputable organizations like the Human Rights Campaign have consistently condemned such discriminatory views, underscoring the severity of this issue on a national scale. I urge you to take a strong stand against this form of discrimination at the federal level. We need comprehensive legislation that protects LGBTQ+ individuals from workplace discrimination and upholds marriage equality across all states. These are not special rights, but basic human rights that every American deserves, regardless of where they live. As my representative in Congress, I ask you to publicly denounce these discriminatory views and work towards policies that ensure equal rights and protections for the LGBTQ+ community nationwide. This is not just about the 9% of the population who identify as LGBTQ+; it's about creating a fair and just society for all Americans. The time to act is now. We need leadership that recognizes and protects the rights of all citizens, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Please support and sponsor legislation that safeguards LGBTQ+ rights, prevents workplace discrimination, and ensures marriage equality remains the law of the land. Our nation's reputation as a beacon of freedom and equality depends on our ability to protect the rights of all our citizens.
