End Unconstitutional Raids that Violate Due Process! NO MORE!
23 so far! Help us get to 25 signers!
I am writing to urge you to take immediate action to stop sweeping and militarized immigration raids such as the one recently conducted in Chicago, which flagrantly disregard civil liberties, due process, and fundamental human dignity. The raid at 7500 S. South Shore Drive—where armed agents in military gear broke through doors, detained U.S. citizens, dragged people from their homes (some naked), and left apartments in disarray—was not law enforcement. It was terror.
As one local man described it:
> “They dragged me out in zip ties, left me tied up outside the building for nearly three hours … I asked for a lawyer. They never brought one.”
This kind of show of force is unconscionable. It sends a message: your home is no longer protected, your rights are meaningless, even if you are a citizen. This is the opposite of what our Constitution promises.
What must happen now:
1. Investigate and hold accountable
Initiate or demand a full, independent investigation into these raids — including all agencies and chain-of-command lines — to determine violations of federal and constitutional law (warrants, unlawful entry, detentions without probable cause, denial of counsel, etc).
2. End militarized tactics in civilian communities
Prohibit federal raids in residential apartment buildings without extreme justification, strict oversight, and safeguards. Disallow use of ramming tools, flashbangs, no-knock entries, and excessive force without clear necessity.
3. Require transparency and reporting
Mandate detailed reporting of all immigration enforcement actions: how many people detained, arrests, warrants, how many were U.S. citizens, what evidence was used, how many rights violations claimed, and what remedial measures were taken.
4. Safeguard citizens and due process
Ensure that any enforcement action respects due process, including legal representation, presumption of innocence, and respecting citizens’ rights. U.S. citizens must never be swept up in raids conducted under civil immigration enforcement.
5. Push for legislative protections
Support federal or state legislation that limits overreach, enshrines safeguards, and ensures accountability in enforcement operations. Explore moratoria on such operations until rules are reformed.
I am a constituent deeply disturbed by these events. I expect my elected representatives to defend constitutional protections—even when it is unpopular or difficult. I ask you to:
Publicly denounce the type of raid we saw in Chicago,
Commit to policy changes and oversight so this never happens in our communities, and
Communicate to the American public the steps you have taken.
If public officials will not act, our communities will suffer fear, mistrust of all law enforcement, and the erosion of the very rights we are supposed to safeguard.
Thank you for your time and attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to your leadership.
