Respect D.C. home rule, address crime lawfully

President Trump should refrain from revoking Washington D.C.'s home rule or invoking martial law. Such drastic measures would undermine democratic self-governance and disenfranchise the district's residents. While addressing public safety is important, there are lawful means to do so without resorting to unilateral federal control that threatens civil liberties. A more measured approach respecting the city's autonomy and constitutional order is warranted.
