Vote NO — The “Big Beautiful Bill” Hurts Indiana Families and Jobs

As a proud Hoosier, I’m writing to urge you to vote NO on the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.” While it’s being marketed as a win for working Americans, the reality for Indiana is far more troubling. This bill would have serious consequences for our families, our jobs, and our future. Here’s how: 1. It raises costs for working families. The bill maintains the $10,000 cap on the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction, which hits middle-income households in Indiana’s urban and suburban areas. Meanwhile, the modest child tax credit increase phases out by 2028, offering little long-term relief for families struggling with rising costs. 2. It gives massive tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans. The bill extends provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, delivering an average annual tax cut of over $50,000 to the top 1%. These extensions would cost $4.5 trillion over a decade, while doing little to support Indiana’s working-class communities. 3. It weakens IRS enforcement for high earners. The bill shifts IRS resources away from auditing the wealthiest taxpayers—despite billions in unpaid taxes uncovered in recent years—while leaving enforcement on lower-income Hoosiers unchanged. 4. It threatens Indiana’s healthcare and economic stability. The bill’s Medicaid cuts and rollback of ACA subsidies could leave up to 16 million Americans uninsured by 2034, including thousands in Indiana. Rural hospitals, already under pressure, could lose critical Medicaid funding, leading to closures and job losses across the state. 5. It jeopardizes Indiana’s clean energy and manufacturing boom. Indiana ranks 8th nationally in clean manufacturing investment, with over $17 billion committed and 12,700 jobs created in recent years. The bill would eliminate key tax credits that support these projects, putting thousands of Hoosier jobs at risk and stalling economic growth This bill doesn’t reflect Indiana’s values of fairness, hard work, and opportunity. I urge you to stand with Hoosier families—not special interests—and vote NO on the “Big Beautiful Bill.”
