An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Stop the $1.8 Billion Theft of Taxpayer Funds

41 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

I am writing to express my urgent opposition to the $1.8 billion slush fund for political gain established by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche at the behest of Donald Trump. This payout represents a documented violation of Article I of the Constitution and a complete collapse of the separation of powers. It is illegal for the executive branch to use taxpayer money to create a political slush fund. The administration is falsely claiming that this is a settlement from a lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service and is using that narrative to unlawfully divert nearly $1.8 billion from the Treasury's Judgment Fund for its own use. Legitimate past settlements involved a defined class of claimants, objective eligibility limits, and rigorous court approval. In contrast, this new fund bypasses judicial oversight entirely and delegates the distribution of taxpayer money to a politically appointed commission without any statutory criteria. Furthermore, because the President is simultaneously the claimant in the lawsuit and the chief executive authorizing the payout, this fund represents a documented conflict of interest and an unprecedented act of executive self-dealing. This action creates a clear, taxpayer-funded disparate impact. By directing public funds to compensate ideological allies, including potential participants in the January 6 attack, the administration is establishing a two-tiered application of government resources. Distributing taxpayer money without a neutral magistrate and objective legal standards violates the foundational principles of Equal Protection and Due Process. Leveraging the Judgment Fund to bypass the congressional appropriations process is a direct assault on the power of the purse. This is a profound failure of institutional competency and an abdication of the rule of law. I urge you to exercise your Article I authority immediately by taking the following actions: 1. Sponsor legislation or seek an emergency injunction to freeze the $1.8 billion transfer. 2. Initiate formal oversight hearings, including an investigation into Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, regarding the misappropriation of the Judgment Fund under 31 U.S.C. Section 1304. 3. Assert your constitutional duty to ensure that no taxpayer dollars are distributed without explicit congressional authorization and court-approved eligibility limits. I will be closely monitoring your actions to stop this unlawful extraction of public funds.
