Urgent Call to Condemn Violence in Gaza

Urgent Call to Condemn Violence in Gaza, Halt Military Aid, and Demand a Lasting Ceasefire I am writing to you as a constituent and a deeply concerned citizen to urge you to take decisive action regarding the ongoing catastrophic situation in Gaza. I am appalled by the escalating violence and the staggering loss of Palestinian life. I implore you and our government to take the following three steps immediately: 1. Publicly and unequivocally condemn the Israeli military's disproportionate attacks in Gaza, which have resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands of Palestinians, including a devastating number of women and children. The destruction of civilian infrastructure, hospitals, and universities, along with the displacement of the majority of the population, meets the legal definitions of severe actions that many legal scholars, human rights organizations, and international bodies are describing as a risk of genocide. 2. Vote to suspend all further military aid and arms sales to Israel until a permanent and verifiable ceasefire is in place, and until there are credible guarantees that such aid will not be used in operations that violate international humanitarian law. Providing the weapons that enable this violence makes our nation complicit. This aid must be conditional on a demonstrated commitment to protecting human rights and pursuing a just and peaceful resolution. 3. Use all diplomatic tools at your disposal to pressure the Israeli government to agree to a real, lasting ceasefire, to allow for the unrestricted entry of humanitarian aid to prevent famine and disease, and to engage in good-faith negotiations for a permanent political solution that ensures security, freedom, and equal rights for both Palestinians and Israelis. The current temporary pauses are not enough. The cycle of violence simply resets. We are witnessing what the International Court of Justice has recognized as a "plausible risk of genocide." Continuing to provide unconditional military and political support while these actions continue is morally indefensible and undermines our nation's stated values of human rights and international law. This is not just a foreign policy issue; it is a matter of basic humanity. My vote in future elections will be influenced by your actions on this critical matter. I, along with a growing number of your constituents, are watching and expect you to stand on the right side of history. Thank you for your time and attention to this urgent issue. I look forward to your response, outlining your position and the actions you will take.
