UBI could have humanitarian and economic benefits

In the long term, a universal basic income could boost consumer spending, jobs, and the economy and would also help people who cannot work, cannot find a job, cannot work enough, or who are very poorly paid (e.g. people working in sheltered workshops). Additionally, a UBI could function as reparations for people who have historically or are currently denied access to meeting basic needs and to wealth building, while not leaving out any marginalized group, and while still supporting other people also caught in our country's deliberately racist, ableist and eugenicist poverty policy. While some people will lose their jobs in the short term, this can be countered by a robust benefits program. The people who are helped out of poverty are more numerous, so overall it will be more beneficial to raise the minimum wage, both from a humanitarian and an economic perspective. Barring issues with automation, jobs should increase once the economy adjusts and people are spending more. all the best!
