URGENT: Abolishing TSA Puts American Lives and Liberties at Risk

I am writing as your constituent to express my vehement opposition to the Abolish TSA Act of 2025 (S.1180), introduced by Senators Mike Lee and Tommy Tuberville. This bill is dangerous, shortsighted, and undermines the safety and rights of the American public.
As of now, this legislation has been referred to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation but has not advanced further. I urge you to stop it in its tracks before it endangers national security, strips away federal labor protections, and weakens our civil liberties.
While reform is necessary in any federal agency, abolishing the TSA and replacing it with privatized security is not reform—it’s dismantlement. Here are my major concerns:
1. Privatization reduces oversight and accountability. Profit-driven contractors may cut corners, resulting in inconsistent and potentially unsafe security standards across airports.
2. The TSA plays a vital national security role. It is part of a federal intelligence and counterterrorism network. Replacing it with private actors fragments this structure and risks leaving gaps in threat detection and response.
3. Civil liberties could be at greater risk. Private security contractors are not bound by the Constitution in the same way as government agencies, making it easier for abuses of power and discrimination to go unchecked.
4. Tens of thousands of federal workers—including many veterans and underrepresented Americans—would lose job protections, benefits, and fair wages.
5. The proposed Office of Aviation Security Oversight is an untested replacement and may not be able to handle the scale or complexity of national aviation security.
6. The bill also uses an expedited process in Congress, limiting debate and amendment. This kind of maneuver for such a sweeping change is undemocratic.
While TSA has areas that need improvement, dissolving it entirely puts Americans at risk. We need evidence-based reform, not ideological overreach.
I respectfully but strongly urge you to oppose the Abolish TSA Act of 2025 and stand for security, labor fairness, and constitutional rights.
