Stop DHS Illegal Hiring and Remove Unvetted ICE Agents

I am writing to demand that you immediately stop the Department of Homeland Security's illegal hiring practices for Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and remove unvetted personnel from the field. This is not a request for better oversight. This is a demand that you use your constitutional authority as an equal branch of government to end this dangerous charade. The Trump administration is not conducting a legitimate law enforcement hiring process. They are deploying white supremacist militia members and completely unqualified applicants as ICE agents. Some recruits are being sent into service before their drug tests have come back. Some cannot read. More than 200 newly recruited agents were dismissed during training for failing to meet hiring requirements, which means they were placed in positions of authority before completing basic standards checks. This is not incompetence. This is deliberate. Senators Alex Padilla and Cory Booker documented what they called "systemic deficiencies" in their letter to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, ICE acting Director Todd Lyons, and CBP Commissioner Rodney Scott. The administration waived age requirements in August and launched the "Defend the Homeland" recruitment campaign that attracted over 200,000 applicants as of November 7. They are processing this massive influx with degraded standards because the goal is not professional law enforcement. The goal is to create chaos that provides a pretext for even stronger authoritarian measures. The consequences are already visible. Renee Good was shot and killed. Illegal attacks on American citizens are occurring. Your constituents expect you to recognize this pattern and act accordingly. Innocent Americans are being harmed and killed. I expect you to immediately demand the removal of all agents who have not completed proper vetting and training. Launch a full investigation into who authorized these illegal hiring practices and hold them accountable. Stop deluding yourself about what this administration is doing and act affirmatively to protect your constituents before more damage is done.
