I’m writing to urge you to support House Joint Resolution No.44 (https://lis.blob.core.windows.net/files/1013366.PDF), which aims to empower local officials to investigate potential campaign finance abuses and hold those responsible accountable. The electoral process must be protected from abuse. Recent events demonstrate that some candidates do not meet Virginia’s campaign finance requirements, and may appear on ballots fraudulently. If the legislature is serious about ensuring Virginia’s elections are free and fair, House Joint Resolution No.44 should be supported.
