Demand Oversight on Deportations to El Salvador

I’m writing to express serious concern about the U.S. deporting migrants to El Salvador’s mega-prison, CECOT—especially the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. Despite being granted protection from deportation by a U.S. judge, Kilmar was forcibly removed and sent to CECOT. There, he was reportedly tortured—beaten with a nail-studded board, choked, sleep-deprived, and threatened with death. He was denied medical care, legal access, and contact with his family. This treatment is inhumane and unacceptable. CECOT is infamous for mass incarceration, poor conditions, and human rights abuses. Sending people—many with no criminal history—to this prison violates basic legal and moral standards. The use of the Alien Enemies Act to justify these deportations is deeply troubling, and at least one deportation occurred in direct defiance of a federal court order. This situation demands oversight and accountability. I urge you to: 1. Publicly condemn these deportations and the use of CECOT. 2. Support an investigation into the treatment of deported individuals. 3. Back legislation requiring judicial review before deportation to foreign prisons.
