Oppose & Vote NO on S.313 the deceptive “Stop Funding Global Terrorists Act”

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to Oppose and Vote NO on S.313, the Deceptively named “Stop Funding Global Terrorists Act.” Like all Republican bills, it applies an absurdly broad brush to a complex situation of humanitarian aid, and doesn’t actually accomplish what they *say* they want to. Senators Capito and Scott, somewhere got the idea that ‘cash shipments’ are sent to terrorist organizations in Afghanistan and presumably other hot spots where the United Nations operates. They want veto power using the State Department. They’re not willing to even look where the problems really are, and work with the UN to fix it. They’re not Senators, they’re more dismantlers of diplomacy. Instead this bill would simply make further cuts to our participation in the United Nations relief efforts in Afghanistan, a country that — we must remind Capito and Scott — bogged us down in a decade-long war with no exit strategy. This was a Republican decision during the Bush era. The Republican Party is simply attempting to hobble or withdraw our nation from the world, its diplomatic efforts, and humanitarian aid which sometimes keeps the peace. Stop this bill and others like it that are making broad brush excuses for withholding aid. We cannot see all ends of these rash actions. Oppose and Vote NO on S.313. Keep the aid flowing. You never know what war the aid will avert.
