However, the administration’s draconian budget proposals and deliberate under funding of scientific agencies threaten the nation’s ability to cultivate the next generation of innovators in game-changing discoveries. Businesses alone cannot fill this void as their research is narrower in scope and focused on short-term gains. It is imperative that Congress assert its constitutional authority to fully fund basic research, including essential indirect costs ensuring these agencies have the resources and staffing required to fulfill their vital missions! Moreover, Congress must decisively reject the administrations unlawful impoundment of congressionally appropriated funds intended for scientific research across various domains. The nation’s future as an innovation, powerhouse hinges on robust sustained investment in fundamental scientific inquiry. Failing to do so with squander America’s hard earned reputation as a global leader in invention and deprive society of potentially transformative advancements in fields ranging from medicine and technology to energy and national security.
