Day 27 of a Letter a Day to End Forced Birth

The idea that a woman should not be allowed to decide what happens to her own body is absurd. Pregnancy and birth are intrusive, complicated, risky endeavors. A woman who carries a pregnancy to term will find her body permanently changed, sometimes in benign ways and sometimes in much worse ways. The event of birth itself can be damaging or even fatal. I've written before that an unwanted, forced pregnancy and birth is essentially torture by definition. For this and many other reasons I am writing a letter a day to end forced birth by writing reproductive freedom into law.
