An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Shut Down Immigration Detention Camps

49 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

I'm asking you to take immediate action to shut down the immigration detention camps operating in our country and to oppose any federal funding that keeps them running. These facilities are inhumane. Families are separated, children are held in cages, and basic medical care is routinely denied. People fleeing violence and persecution deserve asylum hearings, not indefinite detention in conditions that violate human dignity. This isn't border security. It's cruelty as policy. The camps also waste taxpayer money that could fund schools, infrastructure, and healthcare in our communities. Private prison companies profit while detainees suffer. I want you to publicly oppose this system, vote against any appropriations that fund detention expansion, and push for community-based alternatives that actually work. This is a moral test. Shut them down. https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2026/04/ice-dilley-family-detention-center-texas-punished-protest-media-toothache-santa-claus/
