DOJ Advocated Defying the Courts — As Sr Judiciary Republican, You Must Respond

You have consistently insisted that the Department of Justice must remain impartial, fair, and above politics. As you stated, “The Department of Justice must always be impartial, fair, and above politics. The American people need to trust that justice is blind and is administered equally under the law.” (Grassley Senate Judiciary Remarks, June 15, 2023; www.grassley.senate.gov/news/news-releases) You’ve also emphasized the importance of respecting court rulings: “We cannot tolerate an executive branch that picks and chooses which court rulings to follow. That threatens the balance of powers and the foundations of our democracy.” (Grassley Hearing Statements, March 22, 2022; www.grassley.senate.gov/news/news-releases) The recent New York Times report that DOJ official Emil Bove encouraged ignoring a federal court order is a direct violation of these principles and a dangerous attack on the rule of law.
