An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Trump's policies will set US science back decades

3 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The Trump administration's immigration policies and crackdown on border security are causing significant disruptions and anxiety within the scientific community. Several high-profile incidents of researchers being detained or deported upon entry to the US, even with valid documentation, have researchers reconsidering travel plans out of fear they may face similar issues. This hostile environment discourages international collaboration and could deter top talent from wanting to study or work in the US. If the US loses its ability to attract the brightest minds from around the world, it risks falling behind other nations in scientific advancement and innovation. Enacting policies that make it more difficult for foreign researchers to enter and work in the country will damage America's position as a global leader in scientific fields. I urge you to reconsider these counterproductive policies that threaten to set US science back decades by obstructing the free exchange of knowledge and impeding international cooperation that drives progress.
