Oppose MEGA Act’s Unconstitutional Assault on Voting Rights and State Authority

I urge you to publicly oppose and vote NO on the Make Elections Great Again (MEGA) Act, which represents an unprecedented federal overreach into states’ constitutional authority to administer elections while threatening to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters.
This legislation violates fundamental constitutional principles. Article I, Section 4 grants states primary authority over election administration. The MEGA Act tramples this authority by forcing states to discard mail-in ballots, banning universal vote-by-mail systems, and prohibiting ranked choice voting—inserting federal mandates into areas traditionally reserved for state discretion.
The practical impacts are devastating. Tens of millions of Americans—disproportionately people with disabilities, younger voters, and Black and Hispanic communities—lack the documentation required under this bill’s proof-of-citizenship and photo ID mandates. Rather than securing elections, this legislation creates massive barriers to legitimate voting while addressing virtually nonexistent problems. Election fraud in America is vanishingly rare, as documented by nonpartisan research.
The fiscal costs are equally troubling. States would bear enormous expenses implementing these unfunded mandates: updating registration systems, retraining poll workers, and handling documentation verification—all to solve a problem that doesn’t exist. These resources would be better spent on actual election infrastructure improvements.
The MEGA Act’s timing reveals its true purpose: suppressing voter turnout ahead of midterm elections. Its provisions mirror the previously passed SAVE Act and continue Republicans’ pattern of undermining confidence in election integrity through misleading narratives about fraud.
I request that you:
1. **Vote NO** on the MEGA Act
1. **Issue a public statement** explaining your opposition to this unconstitutional voter suppression legislation
Our democracy depends on expanding access to the ballot box, not restricting it. Protect both voting rights and states’ constitutional authority by rejecting this dangerous bill.
Thank you for defending our democratic principles.
