Restore and Defend the NWS and NOAA

Trump’s DOGE cuts to the weather service earlier this year have made it harder to accurately predict, respond to, and keep people safe from extreme weather events like this summer’s deadly floods in Texas. Now that the White House has gutted NWS, it’s ready to turn the public good into a corporate money-making machine. Privatizing the weather service could limit climate scientists’ ability to access reliable weather information — and make it harder for everyone else to stay safe during increasingly severe weather emergencies. Imagine private companies looking for price-gouging opportunities as a hurricane looms on the horizon. Our lawmakers must do everything in their power to protect the public’s access to the weather reports.
