An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Condemn Trump's dangerous rhetoric on disabled people in the workforce

26 so far! Help us get to 50 signers!

Trump's recent remarks blaming disabled people and diversity hiring initiatives for the tragic plane crash in Washington, DC are reprehensible and perpetuate harmful stereotypes. There is no factual basis to suggest employment of disabled individuals compromises safety standards or contributed to this accident. Diversity and inclusion efforts strengthen organizations by bringing varied perspectives and skills. Denigrating disabled Americans' capabilities is discriminatory and further marginalizes an already underrepresented group in the workforce. This rhetoric can discourage employers from hiring qualified disabled candidates out of unfounded fear. As a society, we must reject divisive scapegoating and uphold equal opportunities for all. I urge you to speak out against these prejudiced statements that undermine our shared values of equity and human dignity. Disabled Americans deserve to be judged on their merits, not dismissed based on false stereotypes.
