An open letter to State Governors (Calif. only)

Yes: Sign SB 261 - Climate-Related Financial Risk Act

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

Today I take pen in hand to write and urge you to support and sign SB 261, the Climate-Related Financial Risk Act. Requiring business to prepare and submit risk reports is the only prudent course for any business, yet many are only interested in hiding the risk to their balance sheets for a variety of short-sighted, profit-based reasons. As a resident of the fifth largest economy of the world, we are not immune to the drumbeat of disasters we see in increasing numbers. The economy is currently locked into a system that is driving much of the pollution and global heating that are driving these disasters. It’s simple math. Disclosing their greenhouse gas emissions, all the way through Scope 3, is vital to understand just how little regard business is paying to the growing risk of destabilizing the state’s economy the climate emergency is. We need transparency, and so do people, because their money is at risk too. Please sign this bill and its companion bill SB 253. It’s an important step. Thank you.
