An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Investigate inhumane migrant detention conditions in Everglades

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

The conditions described at the "Alligator Alcatraz" detention facility in the Everglades are deeply concerning. Detainees report being held in freezing tents with constant lighting, having no access to bathing facilities for days, being provided inedible food containing worms only once per day, and facing swarms of large mosquitoes without reprieve. These inhumane conditions violate basic human rights and dignity. Holding people in such an environment, denying them adequate food, water, and sanitation, amounts to cruel and unusual punishment prohibited by law. It is unacceptable to subject any human being to these torturous conditions, regardless of their immigration status. I urge you to take immediate action to investigate and rectify this situation. Taxpayer funds must not enable human rights violations or deprivation of due process. Upholding the constitutional principles and human decency our society is built upon demands your intervention.
