An open letter to the U.S. Congress

Publicly Oppose “Alligator Alcatraz”-Style Detention Facilities

1 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!

I am writing as a constituent deeply concerned by former President Trump’s recent call for states to replicate Florida’s so-called “Alligator Alcatraz” detention facility. These facilities—designed for mass detention—raise serious concerns about human rights, fiscal responsibility, and Iowa’s reputation as a state committed to fairness and dignity. I urge you to: • Publicly denounce the concept of building such facilities in Iowa. • Commit to opposing any state or federal effort to fund or authorize them. • Make your opposition clear to your constituents, so we know where you stand on this critical matter. Iowa should not follow Florida’s example of building costly, controversial facilities that undermine humane treatment and inflame division. Our state can and should pursue policies that uphold the law while respecting the rights and dignity of all people. Please confirm your position publicly and share your plan to prevent these facilities from being established here. Your leadership on this issue is essential.
