The violence must end. We cannot continue to look the other way as Israel continues to escalate against all Palestinians whether in Gaza or in other occupied territories. A 14 year old child was murdered today in Jenin during raids Israeli forces have been conducting throughout the West Bank. No family should ever have to be afraid for their children's safety just by simply existing. This isn't the first time this has happened before or since 10/7.
In terms of the systematized sexual violence and torture Palestinians are subjected to in Israeli "military prisons", the mounting evidence corroborating all past and prior testimony from survivors is impossible to refute. Two of the Israelis who are alleged to be involved in the barbaric sexual torture of a Palestinian man that left him in critical condition and paralyzed in the Sde Teiman facility failed polygraph tests trying to ascertain their involvement. When I first heard about the severity of the injuries the man survived I was sick to my stomach. When I learned that after he had been stabilized he was sent back to the Sde Teiman facility, I wept. I cannot imagine surviving what he has and being forced to go back to the place where it happened. I am terrified for his safety.
It's unconscionable that he would be sent back there. If he is accused of a crime, he should be given due process. If a trial isn't possible yet, he should be allowed to return home under house arrest awaiting trial. The overwhelming majority of the hostages in these concentration camps are never charged with a crime, and held indefinitely. The Sde Teiman facility in particular has a disturbing history of Palestinians being murdered by the torture they endure there. In mid June this year Omar Junaid died at the facility from being tortured.
Then, we have Israel's man-made famine in Gaza that has been starving over 2 million people. Israeli Minister Bezalel Smotrich said that blocking humanitarian aid entry into Gaza and starving Palestinians to death is "justified and moral", but that the international community won't let it happen. Smotrich went on to say that until hostages are returned, it's morally justified and that this is part of the quid pro quo they expect - “Humanitarianism in exchange for humanitarianism". Human rights are not a bargaining chip in war. No one deserves to starve to death.
I demand that you:
– Hold Israel accountable for a permanent, immediate ceasefire, their violations of the Genocide Convention, and gross human rights violations by any means necessary
– Call for the immediate end of Israel’s occupation and apartheid and support Palestinians in their fight for freedom and peace
– Secure the immediate release and safety of all Palestinians who have been abducted and held captive by Israel, including those whose indefinite detention began prior to 10/7
