An open letter to State Governors & Legislatures (Ariz. only)

Reject harmful anti-LGBTQ+ legislation, protect equality and human rights

This bill, HB2062, poses a grave threat to the LGBTQ+ community by codifying a narrow and discriminatory definition of gender based solely on reproductive biology. It strips away the right to self-identify one's gender and forces individuals to conform to rigid categories that do not reflect the diversity of human experience. Furthermore, the restriction on collecting data related to sexual orientation and gender identity will hinder efforts to understand and support LGBTQ+ youth, putting vital programs and resources at risk. This erasure of identity and curtailing of support services is unacceptable and perpetuates harm against an already marginalized group. We urge you to reject this regressive legislation that promotes intolerance and undermines the principles of equality and human rights. Protecting vulnerable communities should be a priority, not enabling discrimination through codified bigotry. The people of this state deserve better.
