Texas has sold its political and moral soul to a NY shyster.
This week, Republicans in the Texas House approved a new map redrawing congressional districts to switch five seats from Democratic control to Republican. Now it goes to the Texas Senate.
President Trump demanded the new map because he knows there is no other way Republicans can win anything in the 2026 midterm elections. He has, with your help, destroyed the GOP’s relationship with the majority of Americans. We don’t want what you think we do.
Texas Republicans are quite blatant about their actions. And disavow any talk of racism by their actions. Even though people of color are driving Texas’s population growth and the new maps put the vast majority of electoral power in the hands of white Texans.
Trump cheered on the Texas Republicans and called for Florida, Indiana, and other states to do the same thing. He also called for Republicans in the state legislatures to “STOP MAIL-IN VOTING” and “go to PAPER BALLOTS before it is too late.” “If we do these TWO things,” he wrote, “we will pick up 100 more seats, and the CROOKED game of politics is over. God Bless America!!!”
The president of the United States is openly admitting that his party cannot win a free and fair election.
There was never any doubt about this desire. But now, because he gets away with most everything, he’s going for the big one. Why not? Who’s going to stop him. Not you.
There is nothing new in Republicans suppressing Democratic voting and gerrymandering states to make it harder to elect Democrats. But now Trump has come right out and admitted that GOP leaders understand they cannot win without jiggering the system. So now we’re in what political scientists call “competitive authoritarianism.”
We will still hold elections because leaders want the legitimacy of an election, but the competition is so unfair the outcome is pretty much preordained. Look at Texas. We’re the poster child example.
We’re one of the least free states in the Union. And so are our elections.
