CONGRESS MUST SPEAK OUT AND PREVENT AN UNAUTHORIZED WAR WITH IRAN
As a constituent, I urge you to speak out publicly and take immediate steps to prevent the United States from entering a war with Iran without clear Congressional authorization and full national debate.
ESCALATION SIGNALS SHOW A REAL RISK OF AN AVOIDABLE WAR
Public reporting and official statements indicate rising tensions, increased military positioning, and heightened alerts. Iran has warned it would retaliate if attacked, and pressure around the Strait of Hormuz - a critical global energy chokepoint - underscores the stakes. In this environment, miscalculation or a “limited” strike could rapidly widen into a broader conflict. Congress must act before events overtake deliberation.
A WAR WITH IRAN WOULD LIKELY EXPAND AND ENDANGER U.S. TROOPS
Iran has major missile capabilities, regional partners, and the ability to threaten U.S. personnel and installations across the Middle East. Even a narrow operation could prompt retaliation, spread across multiple countries, and create escalation that is hard to control once it begins.
THE HUMAN AND FISCAL COSTS OF WAR ARE TOO HIGH TO IGNORE
Americans know the costs of Middle East wars - lives lost, families forever changed, and long-term obligations to veterans and taxpayers. Another major conflict could strain readiness, disrupt energy markets, and deepen the national debt, with uncertain strategic gains.
CONGRESS MUST RECLAIM ITS CONSTITUTIONAL WAR AUTHORITY
The Constitution assigns Congress - not the President - the authority to authorize war. If military action is truly necessary, the Administration should present clear evidence, defined objectives, legal justification, estimated costs, and realistic exit criteria. Without that accountability, the nation risks sliding into open-ended hostilities without informed public consent.
STRENGTH REQUIRES DETERRENCE, DIPLOMACY, AND OVERSIGHT
American strength is demonstrated not only through military capability but through disciplined restraint, strategic deterrence, allied coordination, and effective diplomacy. Preventing war protects U.S. troops, preserves readiness, and keeps national security decisions anchored in law and oversight.
REQUESTED ACTION MUST BE TAKEN NOW
(1) Publicly oppose any unauthorized military strike against Iran and affirm that Congress must vote before sustained military action.
(2) Support War Powers measures requiring Congressional approval before hostilities.
(3) Require a written strategy stating objectives, legal basis, costs, risks, and exit criteria, and explaining how U.S. troops and facilities will be protected.
(4) Convene urgent hearings and require transparent briefings for all members before any military engagement.
Preventing another war now protects American lives, strengthens national security, preserves military readiness, and upholds the Constitution.
