Revoke your veto for HB126! This year, the state Senate and House agreed that our State's Assets Forfeiture laws do more harm than good. So, they signed HB126 to give bare-boned outlines of how law enforcement should implement the practices. It doesn't outlaw it altogether like the organization the Institute of Justice and the ACLU call for. Asset forfeiture allows law enforcement to seize someone's property if they believe it's used in a crime, regardless of whether the owner is convicted of a crime or not. But because there is a complete lack of oversight on whose stuff gets taken, lack of accountability, where the property ends up after being seized, how someone can appeal and have their stuff returned. legalized theft and is a powerful tool in the hands of the corrupt to steal and profit from our most vulnerable, least of all without due process. Not that there should be justification for such an act, but at least HB126 had guidelines for transparency and gave guidance for people who had their property stolen a chance to appeal and a way to get what theirs. With your veto in place it makes sure the current rot of corruption endures. Shame on you for deflecting justice under the guise of criminal activity! Revoke your veto and sign HB126 into law!
