You Can’t Mandate Bibles and Pass HB 1375

House Bill 1375 claims to protect kids from “harmful material” — but it’s written so broadly that even the Bible could trigger lawsuits. Here’s why: • HB 1375 says anything appealing to a “prurient interest” or “patently offensive” to minors could be grounds for civil liability. • The Bible contains graphic scenes of rape (2 Samuel 13), incest (Genesis 19), violence (Judges 19), and slavery (Exodus 21). • If HB 1375 becomes law, any entity making the Bible available to minors — including public schools — could be sued. At the same time, many of you are pushing bills to require Bibles in classrooms. If you vote for both, you’re setting up Texas schools, churches, and yourselves for lawsuits under your own law. You can’t have it both ways. If HB 1375 was truly about protecting kids, the Bible would be the first book banned. It’s not about protecting children. It’s about censorship and control. Vote NO on HB 1375. Texas kids — and Texas faith — deserve better.
