Today I take pen in hand to express my strong opposition to the nomination of Jenn Mascott for a federal judgeship. While Ms. Mascott's academic and professional credentials are notable, her ideological leanings and past associations raise serious concerns about her ability to serve as an impartial and fair-minded judge.
Ms. Mascott's background includes Amy symptoms of the political disease infecting all judicial nominees by Trump.
Her work in the White House Counsel's Office and the U.S. Department of Justice during conservative administrations, coupled with her involvement with the Federalist Society, is, disqualifying all by itself.
No one would hire an obvious spy or saboteur at a corporation, or they’d be fired quickly. Make a mistake with a federal judge and it’s a mistake for life.
Some of the big red flags are Ms. Mascott's views on executive power and agency authority. Her writings and professional history suggest she may favor an expansive interpretation of executive power, which could lead to decisions that undermine the crucial system of checks and balances in our government.
This perspective is especially troubling given the current political climate and the importance of maintaining clear boundaries between branches of government.
Furthermore, Ms. Mascott's associations with figures like Justice Clarence Thomas and Judge Brett Kavanaugh, for whom she clerked, raise questions about her stance on critical issues such as abortion rights. The recent Supreme Court decisions overturning long-standing precedents have highlighted the profound impact that judicial appointments can have on fundamental rights.
I urge you to carefully consider the long-term implications of this appointment. Our federal judiciary requires judges who can set aside personal ideologies and rule based on established law and the Constitution. Ms. Mascott's record suggests she may struggle to meet this essential standard.
She’d be a lapdog for sure.
Given these many concerns, I ask that you vote against the confirmation of Jenn Mascott for any federal judgeship.
Our courts need judges who will protect the rights of all Americans and uphold the integrity of our legal system without partisan bias.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
