Legislate comprehensive background checks for security clearances

The Trump administration's plan to bypass FBI background checks and grant broad security clearances without proper vetting raises serious national security concerns. Granting unvetted individuals access to classified information poses risks of unauthorized disclosures, foreign influence, and exploitation by adversaries. This practice undermines longstanding procedures designed to protect sensitive data vital to our nation's interests. To safeguard classified information and uphold rigorous clearance standards, comprehensive legislation is needed mandating thorough FBI background investigations for all individuals seeking access to classified materials, regardless of political appointment. No security clearances should be granted without completing the full vetting process. This ensures only trustworthy personnel approved by career security professionals have access to sensitive information. Enacting such a law would reestablish accountability and restore integrity to the clearance process. It upholds the principle that national security transcends partisan interests. Proper vetting mitigates insider threats and reassures allies that we zealously protect intelligence-sharing. For the security of our nation, I urge you to support legislation requiring comprehensive FBI background checks before granting any security clearances.
